How are you managing the new challenges related to remote work?

As the remote workforce or hybrid workforce appears to be here to stay, business owners need to put together a playbook for managing it successfully.

As Ryan Golden, reporter for HR Dive, notes:

More than half (53%) of knowledge workers in a recent survey said they lacked a dedicated desk, personal computer, laptop or reliable internet connection in the shift to remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Consider the issue of equipment:

  • If your employee doesn't have the hardware or equipment to work from home, will you provide it, ex: laptops, monitors, webcams, etc.? If they have to use their personal equipment, will you reimburse? What if they damage it?
  • How will you manage software licenses? Will you buy 2 licenses: one for the office and another for the home? Will you have to buy multiple versions: PC version and Mac version?
  • What's your process for managing hardware and software inventory? You have to issue hardware and software to new-hires as part of onboarding and recover them from terminated employees as part of offboarding.

The new normal brings new challenges, and as business owners, you must be prepared and proactive in managing these issues. Now is the time to make sure you have a playbook for managing these new processes.
